Web Design and SEO

Web design and SEO from one team, on one brief, so the structure that decides whether a site can rank is built in rather than added later. One build fee, one monthly fee, and nobody to hand off to halfway through.

What doing both together changes

A website and its search performance are usually bought as two separate purchases, months apart. The site gets built, it goes live, and some time later somebody is asked to make it rank. By then the decisions that govern whether it can rank have already been taken: how the pages are organised, whether there is a page for each service somebody searches for, how quickly it loads, what the headings say.

Working from one brief means those decisions get made once, with both jobs in the room. There is nothing to retrofit later because nothing was left out.

Do I need SEO if the site is brand new?

A new site starts with no standing in search results whatsoever. Being well built helps it earn that standing faster, but it does not skip the step. What a good build does is make sure the structure is not working against you: a page for every service, sensible page addresses, a site that loads quickly on a phone, and the local detail search engines read.

What gets decided during the build

The page list comes first. One page for each service you want to be found for, rather than a single services page listing eight things. Then the areas you cover, which is a separate set of pages again.

Then the writing, which has two jobs at once: reading well for a person deciding whether to call you, and carrying the words a person actually types into a search box. Those pull against each other less than you might expect, because people tend to type what they say.

Then the technical layer. Speed, how the site behaves on a phone, the structured data that tells search engines what your business is and where it works, and the internal links that signal which of your pages carries the weight.

What drives the cost, and the timescale

Page count is the main lever: how many services you want a page for, and how many areas. Everything else follows from that.

Pricing is an upfront build fee and a monthly fee covering hosting, updates, content and the search work. What the fees cover. The split between the two is settled on the call, once the page count is known.

Timescale follows the same number. A site with six service pages moves faster than one with thirty, and the long pole is almost always the writing rather than the build.

When buying them separately makes more sense

If you already have a site you are happy with, and it sits on a platform that can be worked on, you do not need a rebuild to improve how it ranks. SEO on its own is the cheaper route and the right one.

The case for doing both at once is narrower than it sounds. It applies when the site is being replaced anyway, or when it is built in a way that fights every change you want to make. At that point the two jobs have become one job, and Frively would rather do it once properly than bill you twice for the same ground.

“I honestly couldn’t recommend Frively highly enough. I’ve known Colin professionally for 26 years, so when he started doing websites, I jumped at the chance to have him look after mine. I knew Colin, I trusted him, and I knew he would care about getting it right. Before Frively, I had a website that looked nice, but that was about it. It wasn’t really performing, and I had no idea why. I didn’t understand SEO or what needed to be done to make the website actually work for my business. It was frustrating having a website that looked good, but wasn’t bringing the results I needed. I decided to go for Frively’s premium service, and the difference over the last 12 months has been amazing. They don’t just build a website and leave it alone. They are constantly updating, improving and optimising it, looking at what is working and what can be done better. I get regular updates on the improvements they’ve made, the blogs they’ve written, what they’re planning to do next and, importantly, everything is explained in language I actually understand! That has made such a difference to me. I don’t need to understand all the technical side of websites and SEO, I just need someone I trust to understand it for me and explain what’s happening in a way that makes sense. When Frively started working with us, we were pretty much invisible online. Twelve months later, we have an incredibly strong presence within our sector, and the growth in our business has been exponential. Our best month saw 32.59% growth. I know that business growth comes from lots of different things, but I genuinely believe the work Frively has done has played a huge part in getting us where we are today. For me, the biggest thing is that it feels like they genuinely care about our business. They’re not just maintaining a website, they’re continually looking at how they can help us improve and grow. After 26 years of knowing Colin, I was confident I was making the right decision. Twelve months on, I’m even more confident that I did. If you have a website that looks good, but isn’t delivering the results you want, I would absolutely recommend talking to Frively. They have completely changed our online presence and, ultimately, helped our business grow.”
